Steve Trevino speaks “wife.”

The comedian from Texas likes to incorporate his real life as a husband — and father – into his routine.

Here’s an example: “When my wife asks me ‘How many Crown Royals have you had?’ and I tell her, ‘I don’t know, but apparently this is my last one,’” said Trevino who will be on stage at the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead Thursday through Sunday for his “I Speak Wife Tour.”

Getting back to performing in-person after more than a year is wonderful said Trevino. During the pandemic, he and his wife, Renae, were still able to reach audiences through their podcast “Steve Trevino & Captain Evil.”

They discuss life, marriage and parenting.

Not everything is funny. The couple addresses serious matters such as when his wife had a miscarriage.

It is a topic that often people don’t talk about, he said. So they decided too.

They discussed how they felt it was only happening to them.

“People have told us we gave them hope,” said Trevino, who started as a bouncer in a comedy club. “We recently had our second child. Miscarriages happen a lot. We don’t want people to feel that they are going through this alone.”

Trevino said he and his wife are a team and that is something he has learned about being married. It is no longer just about him. He has another person and with two children, two more people to think about when it comes to what he’s going to do.

Their oldest child, Garrett, is 5. They also have a baby girl Delilah who was born in November.

He said he understands his wife so much so that he can tell by what she is saying and how she is saying it what she means.

“When my wife asks ‘Should I go and pick up our son, or are you going to?’ That means she wants me to go,” Trevino said. “I am a therapist and a psychologist. I am blessed to do what I do. I try to stay humble. “

He said his job is to make people forget about things such as politics and their jobs and just be able to laugh.

“I love having a creative outlet,” he said. “Comedians want to make other people happy. We don’t want people to feel sadness. And we all need that human interaction.”

Trevino has nearly 1 million social media followers and has been the headliner of specials for Amazon, Netflix and Showtime.

Paul Tebbets, Pittsburgh Improv’s general manager said Trevino is wonderful to work with and he is “super funny.”

“We are so excited to have him with us,” Tebbets said. “His material hits close to home for me because he includes his experiences as husband and father.”

Trevino said he is excited to perform here.

“Pittsburgh is such a great town,” he said. “Pittsburghers have such pride in their city and pride in their sports teams. The view you get when you come through that tunnel it’s like Holy Moly. They have the best NFL fans. Wherever you go you see people wearing Steelers gear. I can’t wait to be back on stage there and share some laughs.”

Here’s one to make people smile, he said.

“I can translate what my wife says and know exactly what she means,” he said. “Like when she asks me to go to the store. She gives me a list, but I still wait for that text message. And here it comes ‘Are you still at the store?’ You better be or you will find yourself driving back to the store to get the things she thought of once you left. And then when you come home from the store, she says ‘What took you so long?’”
