Tom Hanks takes break from filming in Ambridge to wave hello to a mom and her boy
Ashley Glass of Ambridge had a surprise celebrity encounter Thursday morning.
Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks took a break from filming on Merchant Street to wave to Glass and her 2-year-old son, Charles.
Glass, 35, a homemaker and mother of five, said the actor spotted them while filming scenes for “A Man Called Otto” in Beaver County.
Glass said the she was home with her son. Charles was peering out of the window, enthralled by the commotion that included lots of trucks and cars.
“I knew Tom Hanks was in town,” Glass said. “My husband joked that morning that it would be cool to see Tom Hanks.”
The Glass residence overlooks a section of Merchant Street where filming was scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
“I had no idea I would have a bird’s-eye view of Tom Hanks,” Glass said. “I watch his movies. My favorite movie of his is ‘Forest Gump.’”
She filmed a short video of the encounter on her cellphone and posted it to her Facebook page.
In the video, Hanks is seen breaking from his set duties and walking over to a fence, where he interacted with the mother and son.
Hanks was smiling and waving continuously while greeting Charles.
“My phone has been getting non-stop notifications ever since,” Glass said.
A Beaver County native, Glass said this was her most exciting moment in Ambridge.
“I thought that was really nice because I didn’t expect it all,” Glass said. “Thank you for taking the time to say hello to me and my son. I never met anyone famous.”
