Carnegie Science Center has hired two new senior staff members to lead efforts in STEM education and museum experiences.

Lisa Herrmann takes over as the new senior director of STEM education and Marcus Harshaw is the new senior director of museum experiences.

Herrmann most recently worked as education manager at the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation at South Mountain in Phoenix. She also has worked as a classroom teacher in science education and developer of widely used curricula and programs.

Herrmann also led the development of the Arizona Environmental Literacy Framework and subsequent environmental education certification program.

Marcus Harshaw began in his role as senior director of museum experiences on Monday. It’s a new position overseeing all of Carnegie Science Center’s visitor engagement, exhibits and theaters, including The Rangos Giant Cinema.

Harshaw previously served as the vice president of learning and facilities at The Kaleideum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and as a museum education lecturer in the Johns Hopkins University Museum Studies program. Before that he was the director of program development and evaluation at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

“After extensive searches for both positions, we are excited to have these two talented individuals join our team,” said Henry Buhl Jr. Director Jason Brown. “The experience and strengths that both Lisa and Marcus bring to the Science Center are perfectly aligned with our current needs and goals for the future.”
