Award-winning bluesman Selwyn Birchwood to play Moondog's
Alligator Records artist Selwyn Birchwood will bring his high-octane blues to Blawnox on May 24.
Birchwood, who has gone from playing small Florida clubs in 2014 to headlining festivals and touring the United States and Europe since his 2014 debut, “Don’t Call No Ambulance,” will play longtime local blues venue Moondog’s, bringing songs from his latest album, “Pick Your Poison.”
In 2013, Birchwood and his band won the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. At the same event, Birchwood picked up the Albert King Guitarist Of The Year Award. In 2015, he picked up the Blues Blast Rising Star Award.
Shortly after that, Alligator Records President Bruce Iglauer signed him to the legendary blues label.
“Selwyn writes smart, infectious, fresh songs and delivers them with a warm, conversational vocal style and a fun-loving attitude,” Iglauer said. “He’s a killer guitarist, switching between a regular six-string and lap steel. Live, he’s a ball of energy, interacting with the audience like they were in his living room.”
Birchwood said he’s just doing what he loves.
“There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than playing the blues,” Birchwood said in his press biography. “And I try to convey that with every song and with every performance.”

Birchwood will play Moondog’s at 8:30 p.m., May 24. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the box office.
