Ben Folds announces 2022 Pittsburgh tour stop
Singer/songwriter Ben Folds hasn’t performed in Pittsburgh since the start of the pandemic. But if the title of his current tour is any indication, Folds is very excited about being back in the ‘Burgh.
Folds is bringing his “In Actual Person Live for Real Tour” to Heinz Hall on June 22, where he will perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
The show was originally scheduled for June 2020 but was postponed by the pandemic. Tickets for that show can be used on the rescheduled date, but seats are still available for purchase.
Like most performers, Folds stopped touring in March of 2020 because of covid. He returned to playing live shows last fall. His last performance in Pittsburgh was at Stage AE in August of 2019. At the time, Folds’ memoir “A Dream About Lightning Bugs” had just been published and had made the New York Times Best Seller list.
In a Tribune-Review video interview prior to a book signing at First Unitarian Church, Folds said he likes Pittsburgh a lot.
“I’ve always thought Pittsburgh was a memorable, outstanding, soulful place,” he said. “The city’s history with industry and art and architecture and jazz is fascinating and I’ve always been way into it.”

Folds also shared a story about climbing up Mt. Washington with his sound man.
“We got to the top and ended up in this woman’s backyard and she called the police. And then I went back down and played my show.“
