Grab your best green hat and pour a Guinness — although, were it me, we’d be pouring a Murphy’s Irish Stout, but I digress — and let’s put together an appropriate playlist for St. Patrick’s Day.

Being that the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, let’s start the occasion in a slightly solemn way with this short version of “Patrick’s Reel.”

That’s about as somber as we’re likely to get, though. Now how about we stroll down the lane to the local pub and see what sort of tunes the lads are working on.

Time to kick things up a notch. Let’s come back to Pittsburgh with hometown group the Bastard Bearded Irishmen and their “Salutations, Memoirs, Denouements.”

Now let’s keep that same energy and ship up to Boston. I’ve heard this Dropkick Murphys song a million times (and that’s just from constantly re-watching “The Departed”) and I never get tired of it.

All right, that was a lot. Let’s cool things down for a minute with one of my very favorite Irish ballads, courtesy of The Corries.

Most people don’t think of bluegrass guitar phenom Billy Strings when talking Irish music, but this take on the fiddle tune “Red Haired Boy,” with mandolinist Don Julin, fits right in with the holiday tunes.

Speaking of fiddle tunes, here’s Chris Perry with a classic Irish reel, “The Silver Spear.”

We can keep things traditional for a moment with classic Irish balladeers The Dubliners and their version of an ode to the Northern Ireland town of Carrickfergus…

…and let’s crank things up one last time with a little Flogging Molly.

Finally, here’s your one-stop shop for old-school St. Patrick’s pub singalongs, from “Star of the County Down” to “Finnegan’s Wake.”

Sláinte!
