Is the craft beer business bubble about to burst?

Those who make their living promoting, surveying and sampling products of the beer industry in Pennsylvania are convinced that, well, there is no need to worry whether craft beer makers will run out of craft beer drinkers any time soon. Breweries in Pennsylvania, which publishes a newsletter, seems downright tired of getting asked if there are too many breweries in the Keystone State. The group posted a recent story with a headline that goes straight to the point: “Stop Asking if There are Too Many Breweries in Pennsylvania.”

So, their advice, plain and simple, is to enjoy the burgeoning expansion in the craft beer business.

It is a question often asked in beer circles in Western Pennsylvania as seemingly every town of any size has seen tap rooms and microbreweries populate once vacant storefronts along Main Street in towns struggling to revitalize themselves. Whether it is old factory towns like Millvale, neighborhoods like Lawrenceville or suburbs like Mt. Lebanon and North Huntingdon, home brewers are coming out of their basements and garages to try their hand at selling their beer to someone other than family and friends.

The Tribune-Review recently took a look at the issue and those who have put up money to sell their beer to craft beer fans believe the market is not saturated with fruity craft beers or other exotic beers our grandfathers never thought of drinking. An Imp’ and an ‘Arn — a shot of Imperial whiskey and a bottle of Iron City Beer — was good enough for them.
