Plans for a new apartment building in Pittsburgh’s Uptown received unanimous approval Tuesday from the city’s Planning Commission.

The Standard on Fifth will be located on what is now a vacant site at Fifth Avenue and Moultrie Street. The four-story apartment building will house 51 apartments and include a fitness room, pet washing area and bicycle parking.

About 85% of the apartments will be designated as affordable housing for people making up to 80% of the area median income, which ranges from $66,400 for one person to more than $125,000 for a family of eight.

Boston-based Beacon Communities and neighborhood nonprofit Uptown Partners are collaborating on the project, with Uptown Partners having 30% ownership, according to Brittany McDonald, the nonprofit’s executive director.

The development will include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

The development team said it hopes to begin construction by the end of the year. It did not provide a timeline or cost estimate for the project.
