Westmoreland County Community College is set to offer training courses for table games dealers beginning in August.
The Dealer School courses are sponsored by Live! Casino, which expects to open its new casino late this year at the former Bon-Ton location at Westmoreland Mall in Hempfield.
Instruction is slated to begin Aug. 17 in a mock casino at the mall, with social distancing and use of masks and hand sanitizer in accordance with covid-19 health guidelines.
Courses include one on blackjack and other banked card games and another on carnival games, including three-card poker and Ultimate Texas Hold ’em.
Classes will be taught by licensed instructors. Those who successfully complete the course will have the opportunity to audition for positions at the Hempfield casino but are not guaranteed employment.
Graduates may pursue work at any Pennsylvania casino.
The $150 million Live! Casino gambling and dining site in Hempfield is expected to create more than 500 jobs, 100 of them for table games dealers.
The cost for Dealer School students is $110 for blackjack training and an additional $75 for other games.
Before registering for the training, prospective students must attend one of several informational sessions. Sessions begin July 17 at WCCC’s Youngwood campus. Additional sessions are set for July 27 at the New Kensington campus and Aug. 4 at the Latrobe campus.
According to WCCC, table games dealers must be at least 18, have basic math skills, must pass drug and background checks and must obtain and maintain a license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
