Sometimes, “fake news” is only wishful thinking.
If you’ve ever spend some time on SPAM’s website (and, really, who hasn’t?) then you know the company has a wonderful sense of humor about itself.
A few years ago, the company — which makes the beloved pork-in-a-can product — posted on its Facebook page a jest about Pumpkin Spice SPAM.
Now, the joke’s no joke.
According to The Daily Meal, the company will add the Pumpkin Spice variety to its vast lineup of SPAM products, beginning Sept. 23.
The food-and-drink site recently got a hold of a sample tin for tasting.
The results? “It looks like normal SPAM (which really isn’t that bad!),” the site said, “but soon after taking it out of the can we caught a whiff of that familiar pumpkin spice scent, which only intensified as it fried up on our stovetop. The combined scent of heavily processed ham and sweet pumpkin spice was a bit off-putting.”
Oddly enough, the Daily Meal reviewers were pleased with the taste, saying the “cinnamon, clove, allspice and nutmeg shared center stage with the rich and savory SPAM flavor, however, along with a hint of sweetness.”
One reviewer said it reminds one of “breakfast sausage,” while another said it would work best “paired with other elements, like in a scramble or breakfast sandwich.”
Pumpkin Spice SPAM will be available only through spam.com and walmart.com.
