Minnesota fairgoers this summer will being dunkin’ their doughnuts instead of injecting them.
One of the new foods slated for the 2019 Minnesota State Fair had been a batch of fill-your-own doughnuts. Well, those little spherical doughnut holes, actually.
The filling were to be Bavarian cream, chocolate custard and Minnesota lingonberry jam and the injection method was to be plastic syringes.
Who would love this idea? It turns out 3,300 people signed the Change.org petition against the sweet treats.
It was the side of syringes that turned people off for two reasons: The single-use plastic injectors were not eco-friendly and the process evoked the image of drug use.
The online petition was titled “Stop the Minnesota State Fair from allowing Wingwalker Donut to use plastic syringes!” and apparently worked because organizers this week pulled the item from their page of new fair foods, reports the Star Tribune.
The doughnuts will instead be offered in a compostable serving tray with a trio of compartments for the fillings, the Star Tribune reports. Customers will be dipping the doughnut holes in the fillings.
