Want to lose weight? Learn how to cook from Penn State classes in Plum and Greensburg
Penn State Extension is offering a new cooking class for weight management when healthy eating and losing weight is on many people’s minds after the holiday calorie splurge.
“Let’s Cook for Weight Management,” a new Penn State Extension class will be offered: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 6 p.m. at the Penn State Extension Westmoreland County office, 214 Donohoe Rd., Suite E in Greensburg; and Tuesday, Jan. 21, 6 p.m., at the Sampson Family YMCA Teaching Kitchen, 2200 Golden Mile Highway in Plum.
The cost is $39.
Penn State Extension rolled out the new class in August, according to Karly Warner, marketing coordinator for Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences.
More than reading recipes online, the “Let’s Cook for Weight Management” will teach the basics of how to cook food that is lower in calories but still satisfying.
“There is a hands-on cooking component as well where participants will be able to taste everything they create,” Warner said.
Penn State is offering the program because weight issues put the public at a greater risk for developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and some types of cancer, according to Warner.
The cooking program is one of a number of programs offered by Penn State Extension’s Food, Family, and Health team. To learn more, visit their website.
