5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: June 9-11
We have made it to the weekend. Here are some ways to spend it.
Garden party
The Mattress Factory’s annual garden party, a signature-themed fundraiser for the North Side museum, is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. The Trash Bash Garden Party is described as “an evening of metamorphosis featuring food and drink from some of Pittsburgh’s best restaurants and bars.”
There will also be art installations, an art auction, a costume contest, musical performances and dancing.
Tickets are $150.

Pizza pie
The annual Good Taste! Pittsburgh’s PizzaFest — A Slice Of Delish! is Sunday at Trace Brewing in Bloomfield. It is a celebration of everything pizza. The event will feature six Pittsburgh pizza artisans serving pies straight from the oven. There will be pizza acrobatics, mozzarella pulling and live music.
Participants include Mediterra Bakehouse, Caliente Pizza Draft House, Alta Via Pizzeria, Asti’s Italian Steak House, Mercurio’s Pizza and Gelato and Large Plain Pizza & Pints.
There are two sessions — 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Tickets are $30.

Beer run
The Pennsylvania Brewery Running Series kicks off with the 5k Beer Run at SlyFox at the Highline on the South Side. The event begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday. It is a way to sample the city’s craft beer scene and encourage healthy activity.
The course starts and ends at SlyFox. It weaves through the riverfront trail of the South Side. Participants can run, walk or jog. It is an open course, which means roads will not be closed. Dogs and strollers are welcome on the course.
There will be live music and food. Ten percent of proceeds support local nonprofits.

The Clarks
Pittsburgh’s own — The Clarks — will perform on Saturday at Stage AE on the North Side. The band will be joined by another Pittsburgh group, Chet Vincent & The Music Industry.
The Clarks will be singing the entire set of the “Between Now and Then Album,” including “Nothing’s Wrong Nothing’s Right” which is one of The Clarks lead vocalist Scott Blasey’s favorite songs.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
Tickets start at $25.

Benefit concert
The second annual “Marianne Cornetti and Friends Benefit Concert” is at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. Special guest actor and opera singer Meghan Picerno, who has performed as Christine Daae in “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, will join Butler County native Marianne Cornetti, an international Verdi mezzo soprano opera singer, and others on stage.
Also participating will be peers from UPMC Western Behavioral Health who use music as a part of their recovery. The event benefits the Making Minds Matter Fund at UPMC Western Behavioral Health.
Tickets are $45, $20 for students. Attend a VIP reception for an additional $30.
