Vacationers were forced to run for cover as a fast-moving, violent storm hit the Outer Banks Thursday evening.

The popular North Carolina beach vacation area lost power and had several trees toppled by the large waterspout, reports OBX Today. Shingles were reported ripped from roofs in Kill Devil Hills.

WITN-TV shared spectacular video of the storm crossing Currituck Sound at Nor’Banks Sailing Center and The Village Tavern in Duck.

Duck Pier reported a 78 m.p.h. wind gust.

The storm hit the area with high winds around 6 p.m. Torrential rain and lightning followed, reports OBX Today, before the storm moved off and left behind a rainbow over the ocean.
