A SWAT vehicle is seen among police and emergency units responding to a shooting Monday afternoon on Pleasant Ridge Road in Stowe Township.

A man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon in Stowe, police said.

The man, identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as James Nelson Jr., 42, was found by first responders and pronounced dead after he was taken to an area hospital, according to Allegheny County police.

County and township police, medics and firefighters were dispatched to the scene in the 400 block of Pleasant Ridge Road shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to an Allegheny County 911 dispatch supervisor.

County police said preliminary information indicates the shooting followed an argument outdoors. Police said it was a targeted shooting.

Investigators believed the suspect may have entered a nearby residence. A SWAT team responded and cleared the residence but found no suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the county police tip line, 1-833-255-8477.
