17-year-old boy charged 2nd time for threats targeting Chartiers Valley School District, police say
Allegheny County Police have charged a 17-year-old boy who is accused of writing a threatening note that disrupted operations at Chartiers Valley School District on Friday.
District officials reported on the Chartiers Valley website that students would learn remotely on Friday and that after-school activities were canceled “out of an abundance of caution” during an investigation prompted by a “concerning note.”
Officials didn’t say where or when the handwritten note was discovered.
County police, called in on Friday to assist Collier Township police in the investigation, said the teen suspect was taken into custody that evening and charged with terroristic threats and harassment.
Authorities didn’t release the name of the boy, who has been charged as a juvenile.
County detectives said the boy previously was charged on Nov. 11 related to an earlier terroristic threat targeting Chartiers Valley.
That earlier threat also triggered remote learning and canceled after-school activities on Nov. 11. Classes at the Parkway West Career and Technology Center also were affected.
Interim Superintendent Joseph Dimperio said a student in crisis, who was not identified, was suspected of making that threat. Authorities said the student was placed in supervised custody as a result of that incident.
