When Allegheny Health Network opened a 160-bed hospital in Pine in September 2021 to meet the growing demand for medical services in the North Hills, officials knew it would be a busy place.

But the volume of patients and visitors to the sprawling campus along Perry Highway has been greater than expected, prompting officials to commission a study that identified the need for more parking at the facility, which is adjacent to the AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion.

To help address the need, state Rep. Rob Mercuri, R-Pine, helped secure $1 million in funding for the new lots from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

“As AHN Wexford continues to serve the health and wellness needs of our community, this funding will support resident parking accessibility and reduce congestion as the hospital continues to expand their capabilities to provide services to our region,” Mercuri said in a news release.

The lawmaker said the grant program is used for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

Funding is provided to projects that have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity, he said.
