Allegheny County adds 264 covid cases over past 2 days, no new deaths
Allegheny County added 264 cases of coronavirus over the past two days, the county Health Department reported Monday.
Officials said there were 144 new cases on Sunday and 120 new cases on Monday.
There were 203 confirmed cases from 2,755 PCR tests, which were conducted from Oct. 23 through Sunday.
In addition, the county said there were 61 probable cases, of which 55 were from positive antigen tests.
The new cases range in age from 1 to 90 years old, with the median age being 36.
For a third straight day, no new covid-related deaths were reported by the county. The county’s death total remains at 434.
Covid cases in Allegheny County have increased significantly since late September, when the county’s seven-day case total was 417. Since then, the seven-day mark has grown more than 155% to 1,065. The county has not had a four-digit seven-day count since the end of July.
The age-group breakdown of Sunday and Monday’s new cases — 147 females, 117 males — was:
- Ages 0-4: 6
- Ages 5-12: 10
- Ages 13-18: 16
- Ages 19-24: 41
- Ages 25-49: 106
- Ages 50-64: 53
- Ages 65 and over: 32
The county said there were no new hospitalizations since Saturday.
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 144 Allegheny County residents currently in the hospital with the virus, 27 of them on ventilators. State officials report there are 810 operational ventilators in the county, with 201 (24.8%) currently in use for all illnesses. To date, the county reports 1,453 residents have been hospitalized for the virus.
The county’s website is reporting outcomes in 11,371 cases — with 10,937 assumed to be recovered and 434 deaths. The current recovery rate for those whose case has an outcome is just over 96%. Out of the county’s 16,060 total covid-19 cases, 4,689 cases remain without an assumed outcome. Cases are considered to be “recovered” after it’s been 32 days since the person was hospitalized for covid-19 and not deceased or, if they weren’t hospitalized within 14 days of testing positive.
Officials report there have been three new covid cases in the past week among employees at the Allegheny County Jail. To date, 20 workers have tested positive, with 15 of them having recovered. The county has tested 141 workers.
There have been no new cases among the jail’s inmates, with 592 having been tested — yielding 38 positives, 549 negatives. All 38 of the covid-positive inmates have either recovered or been released.
Since the pandemic began in March, 14,706 county residents have had positive PCR tests for the virus, with 214,720 reported negative — meaning 6.4% of those PCR tests have been positive.
