Beaver County man charged in Pittsburgh shooting that sent man to hospital

A Beaver County man is charged with attempted homicide in a Friday morning shooting in Pittsburgh that sent another man to Allegheny General Hospital.

City police used surveillance video to trace a white Nissan Armada involved in the shooting to Shane Terrance Phillips, 52, of Ambridge, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.

The shooting victim, whom authorities haven’t named, was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his buttock, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Police said the victim was found shortly after 11:30 a.m. near a black Cadillac SUV that had crashed into a wooden railing in the 2700 block of Sherlock Avenue in the city’s Perry South neighborhood.

The wounded man told police he’d been shot at by someone in a white SUV that was following his car, according to the complaint. Police said they found blood and two fired bullets inside of the Cadillac.

Police traced the white SUV to a church parking lot on Union Place. They took Phillips into custody when he approached the car and opened the door. According to the complaint, at the time of his arrest Phillips was wearing white-and-green shoes matching those of a man shown on surveillance video exiting the car about 15 minutes after the shooting.

While Phillips was being interviewed at police headquarters, investigators retrieved baggies with pieces of crack cocaine from his shoe, the complaint states.

In addition to a drug-related violation, Phillips also is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and a firearms violation.

Police noted Phillips had pleaded guilty to a previous charge of robbery and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Phillips was awaiting a preliminary hearing, according to online court documents.
