Bethel Park’s new police chief is a 23-year veteran of the department.

Following his unanimous approval by municipal council on Feb. 12, Dave Arnold was sworn in by District Judge Ron Arnoni. In leading the department, Arnold succeeds the late Timothy O’Connor, who served as chief from 2015 until his resignation in November.

“This appointment comes with a great deal of responsibility and it’s not something that I take lightly,” Arnold said, telling Bethel Park residents: “Under my leadership, we will focus on keeping your community safe for you and your families. We will be a police department that is tough on crime and strives to build community relationships.”

He was promoted to administrative lieutenant in 2021 and served as acting chief after O’Connor’s departure.

“To the men and women of the police department, it is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as your chief. You are some of the finest officers that I have ever had the privilege of working with,” he said. “I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure that each and every one of you go home safe at the end of your shifts.”

In another department move, council voted unanimously to approve Sgt. Joelle Dixon’s promotion to the lieutenant. She had served as patrol officer, detective, crime prevention officer and patrol sergeant during her 15 years on the force.
