A groundbreaking ceremony was held Sept. 20 at Bethel Park’s Pine Tree Park to begin park upgrades, as well as sidewalk and storm-water management efforts.

Local residents, along with several Bethel Park council members and municipal staff members, attended at the park, located off N Street near St. Germaine Church.

“This is a continuation of our efforts to provide each neighborhood park with its own unique identity,” Tim Moury, council president, said. “We also look to residents near each park to provide feedback on their favorite playground designs. In this case, neighbors asked that we keep the baseball area, and we were able to do that by making slight modifications to the design.”

According to Moury upgrades will include installing new playground equipment, resealing the basketball court and installing a new backboard, replacing the park’s grill, installing removable bollards at the entrance and doing some landscaping. The municipality also is looking into the possibility of solar lighting for the pavilion.

Councilman John Oakes reviewed the pathway and discussed efforts regarding storm-water management that will include the installation of new French drains and new hydroblocks, repairing and replacing inlets, and updating an existing path to extend to the park’s pavilion. The path will be constructed with Perk E Pave, a permeable/flexible paving that will allow storm water to flow through it and into a French drain.

Current playground equipment will be relocated to Lions Park, off Irishtown Road. New equipment for Pine Tree Park is expected to be delivered mid-October.
