Bridgeville installs cameras at Chartiers Park to stop vandalism, illegal dumping

Bridgeville installed 20 cameras around Chartiers Park in an effort to prevent vandalism and illegal dumping on the property. 

Manager Joe Kauer said the $11,500 project has been something the borough has wanted to do for around 10 years but never did because of budget constraints.

“We hope this keeps people from vandalizing and illegal dumping,” he said, adding the cameras were “strategically placed” throughout the property.

He declined to offer additional details.

Councilman Joe Colosimo, who serves on the borough’s parks and recreation committee, said during the Feb. 8 council meeting the borough is working alongside the police department, which installed additional cameras “to really make it secure.”

“I’m proud of that and glad it finally came through, after about 10 years,” he said.

Police Chief Chad King said he hopes the cameras to be a crime preventative tool. He referenced other cameras installed around town that have helped with two or three recent cases.

“It’s nice to have that ability to be able to assist us in investigations,” King said.

King was not immediately available for additional comment.

The park, located on 22 acres along Chartiers Street, has picnic tables, a playground, a walking trail and horseshoe pits along with two pavilions.
