Collier appoints new commissioner, finance director

Kari Suter was appointed to Collier Township’s board of commissioners, filling a vacancy left by Tim Young’s recent resignation.

Commissioners also hired Jennifer Foster as finance director. Foster’s previous experience includes being a finance officer in the Army.

“It sounds like this is a great group of commissioners. They want to make sure the community is always developing and growing,” Foster said. “They have great energy.”

Foster lives in Washington County.

Ukrainian pysanky/Easter egg sale set for March

St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church will host its 56th Annual Ukrainian Easter Egg Sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 24.

The event features more than 1,200 pysanky (Easter eggs), exquisite goose and ostrich eggs, hand-painted wooden eggs, handcrafted items from Ukraine, basket raffles, door prizes, a bake sale and more. The kitchen will be open to serve a variety of Ukrainian foods.

Church tours and talks with Fr. John Charest will be at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. The church is at 220 Mansfield Blvd., Carnegie.

College Club of Carnegie meeting slated

The College Club of Carnegie will meet March 2 at Scoglio’s Restaurant, 661 Andersen Drive, Foster Plaza Building #7 in Greentree.

An 11:30 a.m. social will be followed by a luncheon at noon. Bingo will be played, and auction items and a 50/50 raffle will be offered to benefit the scholarship fund.

Presto VFD unveils new website

The Presto Volunteer Fire Department has launched a new website, prestovfd.org.

The department boasts the website having a user-friendly design, up-to-date announcements, emergency preparedness resources, photo galleries and videos, membership information and is optimized for various devices.

The fire department serves Collier.

Bridgeville firefighters to have craft show in April

The Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department will host a craft and vendor show on April 28 at the fire department, 370 Commercial St. in Bridgeville.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event includes more than 70 crafters and vendors, food trucks, basket raffles and a 50-50 raffle.

CV band students recognized

Chartiers Valley band students Wesley Madge, Maddie Cioccio and Renee Hill represented the district’s music department at the PMEA District 1 Band West in January.

Madge was 1st chair for percussion, Cioccio was 1st chair 1st clarinet and Hill was 2nd chair bass clarinet.

All three students advanced to Region Band.

‘Coffee with the Chief’ in South Fayette

People can meet, share comments and ask questions with South Fayette Township Police Chief John Phoennik during a “Coffee with the Chief” event.

The program is scheduled for March 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Dunkin’, 179 Millers Run Road, next to Washington Financial Bank at I-79.

Collier Parks and Rec to host craft show

Collier’s Parks and Recreation department will host a Spring Craft and Vendor show April 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at Collier Community Park, 5 Lobaugh St., Oakdale.

The event is free. There is a $35 registration fee for participating crafters and vendors.

Home & Garden Workshop coming to Bridgeville

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Resources Council, Bridgeville will host Home and Garden Workshops on April 3 at 5 p.m. in the Bridgeville Public Library.

The first class is about backyard composting. People will learn how to set up and maintain a compost bin to turn kitchen scraps, yard waste and more into natural compost. Participation in the class will cost $20. A composting bin costs $70.

Following the composting class is a “Watersheds and Rain Barrels” course at 6 p.m. Participants will learn about watershed health and discover ways to promote healthy waterways, including setting up and maintaining a rain barrel. The cost to participate in the class is $20 and is $80 if you want your own rain barrel.

Pickleball tournament scheduled in Collier

Pickleball enthusiasts will have a chance to show off their skills during a tournament hosted by Collier Parks and Recreation.

The tournament is scheduled for April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Collier Community Park, 5 Lobaugh St.

The cost is $25 per person. Winners can earn a cash prize and trophy.
