Traveling glass recycling program in area Oct. 17-22
The Pennsylvania Resources Council Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program, which serves residents living in municipalities no longer accepting glass in curbside recycling collection, provides a free recycling service to residents that rotates through a variety of locations in the region.
From Oct. 17-22, the Borough of Thornburg Maintenance Facility, 25 Rutgers Road, will be collecting glass.
Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.
Virtual CSI class open to students in grades 6-12
If you love CSI and forensics, this online STEM program is for you!
Taught from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26-30 by current and former detectives, this one-week class is packed with hands-on activities to learn what it takes to become a crime scene investigator. It takes about 90 minutes per day on the Zoom app.
Participants will solve a missing person case, create and examine blood spatter patterns, analyze handwriting with chromatography, practice interrogation techniques, make a magnifying glass and more.
The program is ideal for students in grades 6 to 12 with an interest in law enforcement, science and forensics. There will be plenty of one-on-one guidance and mentorship from practicing CSI professionals.
Students in the virtual program will be enouraged to build their STEM skills and connections needed to succeed in the field. Plus, all students will receive a CSI Lab Kit brimming with swag.

Storyteller to share spooky tales in Lost Souls of Fairview Cemetery
Join storyteller Alan Irvine at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 for an evening of ghost stories in the Lost Souls of Fairview Cemetery in South Fayette’s Fairview Park.
There will be spooky tales for all ages about ghosts and other creatures, haunted houses, graveyards and more.
