In Scott Township, most races are uncontested, according to the Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial candidate list.

In Ward 4, Democrat Samuel Daifonso is running uncontested in the primary. He will face Republican Raymond Owens, who is also uncontested in the primary, in the November election.

In Ward 6, incumbent Democrat Michelle Sedlak is the only candidate on the ballot.

In Ward 8, incumbent Democrat Angela Wateska is also the only candidate on the ballot.

Ward 7 has the only contested race. Democratic incumbent Nicholas Seibel and Democratic newcomer Curt Friehs are each seeking their party’s nomination to be on the ballot in the general election.

Here are their responses to questions posed by the Signal Item:

Curt Friehs

Friehs did not respond to requests for comment for this article.

Why did you decide to run for election? I want to serve another term as comissioner to continue growing Scott Township as a great place to live and work. I believe in honest, respectful, accessible and, most importantly, transparent local government that acts in the best interest of its residents by creating a diverse, welcoming community at a reasonable cost.

What is the biggest issue that needs to be addressed? We need to make our local government more transparent, approachable and responsive to our diverse resident base citizens while focusing on critical infrastructure maintenance, including sewer system maintenance and roadway improvements. Certainly not every decision can be popular (does anyone really want to sign up for months of road construction?), but I believe that the hard decisions are just a little bit easier when the people can trust their government is trying to work in their best interest.

What should voters know about you? In addition to my responsibilities as a commissioner, I currently work in the field of facilities maintenance and construction with experience in supply chain logistics. I am a former first responder, so I take a particular interest in effective emergency management and planning. My wife and I, along with our two rescue cats, are nine-year residents of Scott.
