The victims of Friday’s murder-suicide in Green Tree have been identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiners Office.

They are Kevin Benjamin Smith, 38, and Kristen B. Smith Jr., 40.

Police are investigating the incident during which which one of the men fatally shot his relative and then took his own life.

Allegheny County Police said a 911 dispatcher was notified of a shooting in the 200 block of Woodridge Drive at about 5:40 p.m.

First responders found a man who had been shot in the chest.

Officers pulled the victim out of the residence and he was transported to an area hospital, but he later died.

Allegheny County Police said the suspect who apparently shot the man was a relative.

He was still inside the residence.

The South Hills SWAT team responded and entered the residence, where they found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted single gunshot.

County police did not identify the men or their relationship in a news release.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating.
