Trash collection will look a little different in Bridgeville this year.

The borough renewed its five-year contract with County Hauling. During the bidding process, five trash haulers expressed interest in bringing their services to Bridgeville, but only two — County Hauling and Waste Management — submitted bids, said borough Manager Joe Kauer.

Waste Management’s bid only provided for a fully automated service that would have limited residents to using one 96-gallon cart with biweekly recycling collection and bulk items collected once per month, Kauer said.

County Hauling had the lowest bid, Kauer said. Borough council accepted the bid option that limited the amount of trash a household can put out to 10 bags per week and collects recycling biweekly. Recycling began Jan. 12. The next recycling date is Jan. 26.

The quarterly fee for garbage service is increasing to $72, from $53.

Trash will still be collected every Friday, Kauer said. A calendar for recycling collection is posted on the borough’s website.

In addition to the 10-bag weekly limit for trash, there is a limit of two bulk items per house monthly.

New 32-gallon recycling carts are provided by the borough. Kauer recommended residents keep their owls recycling bin as an overflow container.

Glass is again being collected with recycling. Only plastics with a “1” or “2” recycling designation are being accepted, plastics with designations “3-7” are not recyclable.

Residents can purchase an additional recycling cart for $50 at the borough office. For more information, call 412-221-6012, ext. 110.
