Crescent police caution of bogus fundraising in light of house explosion
Crescent police are warning of illegitimate fundraising efforts for the family affected by Tuesday’s house explosion that killed two people.
In a social media post, police said those who created the fake fundraisers are taking advantage of the situation.
“I must emphasize that the family has not endorsed any such initiatives,” the post reads.
The blast in the small Ohio River community was reported just before 9 a.m. Emergency responders arrived to find debris from the home, which had been destroyed, scattered around the neighborhood.
Helen Mitchell, 87, and David L. Mitchell Jr., 89, were killed, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Two other homes were damaged, and the explosion was felt miles away.
Police said any future fundraising efforts by the Mitchells’ family will be communicated through reputable channels.
