Several road and bridge rehabilitation projects in the Pittsburgh area will have an impact on commuters over the next several months.
Following are some of the projects underway in the area:
McKees Rocks Bridge inspection
A single-lane restriction will be in place on the McKees Rocks Bridge on Wednesday for inspection activities, PennDOT announced.
The restrictions will be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the eastbound lane.
Mt. Troy Road Extension in Ross reopens
Mt. Troy Road Extension in Ross has reopened to traffic after being closed for nearly four months for repairs, the Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced.
The work included construction of a support wall, drainage improvements, paving and installation of slope erosion protection, curbs, guide rails and pavement markings.
A 300-foot section of the 4400 block has been closed since Sept. 13.
Mt. Royal Boulevard Utility Work in Hampton
Utility work along Mt. Royal Boulevard in Hampton will begin Wednesday and require single-lane restrictions, PennDOT announced.
The restrictions will occur on Mt. Royal Boulevard between Craighead Road and Old Mt. Royal Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through late March.
Crews contracted by Peoples Gas will conduct pipe installation work.
Philip Murray Bridge closing for 2 days
The Department of Public Works announced that the Philip Murray Bridge, connecting Second Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh to the South Side, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, the county public works department announced.
The closure of the bridge (also known as the 10th Street Bridge) is needed to complete work that was started last year to replace a damaged expansion dam strip seal.
There will be no posted detour for outbound traffic. The county recommends using the Smithfield Street Bridge to cross between Downtown and the South Side.
Spring Garden Road in Reserve closing
Two dozen bus stops along Spring Garden Avenue will be discontinued for two weeks while a section of the road is closed for work.
The 4100 block of Spring Garden Road in Reserve will close at 9 a.m. Tuesday for two weeks to temporarily repair a damaged retaining wall while a project to construct a new wall is being designed, the Allegheny County Port Authority announced.
The work will result in the 7‑Spring Garden bus route being detoured inbound using Mt. Troy Road and Wicklines Lane and outbound using Wicklines Lane, Cowley Street, Ley Street, Rialto Street, Pittview Avenue and Mt. Troy Road.
