La Roche University will bring a variety of festive activities to its McCandless campus with its annual Festival of Lights celebration.
Slated for Dec. 2, the event will begin with a craft show from 3 to 9 p.m. at Zappala Campus Center and end with a fireworks display over the campus at 8:30 p.m.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Festival of Lights in its entirety with crafts, children’s activities, fireworks and more,” said Colleen Ruefle, the school’s vice president for student life and dean of students. “The event is a celebration of the holiday season, and we are extremely grateful to our sponsors for making this community tradition possible once again.”
The event is free and open to the public.
UPMC Health Plan, UPMC Passavant and the Passavant Hospital Foundation sponsor the holiday festival.
There will be a bounce house, activities and a visit from Santa for children. Performing arts majors will be dressed as sugar plum fairies to meet the kids.
The university also is planning food trucks, carriage rides and live ice sculpting, as well as an alumni reception.
The La Roche Student Government Association will host its annual Cans for Coca food drive at the entrance of the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center from 6 p.m. till 8:15 p.m. Guests can donate canned goods or other nonperishable food items to receive a cup of cocoa. Donations will go to the North Hills Community Outreach and the La Roche pantry, which serves students in need.
