A commercial fire burned through a vehicle repair shop Friday evening in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood.

Pittsburgh firefighters were dispatched to the 800 Block of Gross Street at about 6:15 p.m., according to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.

No injuries were reported.

Officials said it appeared that an electric vehicle’s lithium-ion battery had ignited, but the exact cause of the fire is still to be officially determined by the Fire Investigation Unit.

The one-alarm fire took about 45 minutes to extinguish, said officials.

However, the entire operation took over seven hours as firefighters followed procedures to ensure the vehicle did not continue to reignite, according to public safety officials.

The repair shop is located at the end of Gross Street near some other light industrial facilities.

The fire bureau’s hazmat team was standing by throughout the operation, and police and EMS also responded to the scene, said officials.
