Former Steelers throw support behind Harris, Trump
Several big-name former Pittsburgh Steelers are making a final play to ramp up support for presidential nominees Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
On Sunday, Jerome “The Bus” Bettis, “Mean” Joe Greene and the family of the late Franco Harris joined together to endorse Vice President Harris.
“It’s time for us to elect a leader who’s gonna fight for us,” Bettis said. “There’s only one person in this race who fits that bill: Vice President Kamala Harris.”
The Steelers icons posted their support to social media, with Greene throwing his support to Harris in a post to X.
At the same time, former Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell rallied for Trump during the former president’s event Saturday at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.
“Let’s go, Trump. You already know, vote Trump. Let’s go,” Bell told the crowd.

Brown donned a red MAGA hat while introducing Trump on stage.
“We all need to possess courage and keep pushing forward to bring a better future,” Brown said.
“And speaking of pushing forward and a better future, we are here to support our 45th president, soon to be the 47th president, Donald J. Trump.”

Brown spent a few seconds criticizing Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a former high school football coach.
“He isn’t a real football coach,” Brown said. “He could never guard me.”
On Sunday, the Pro Bowler was spotted outside Acrisure Stadium doling out Trump-Vance yellow and black towels to fans. Inside, Trump was a guest of a suite holder to take in the game as the Steelers beat the New York Jets, 37-15.
This weekend wasn’t the first time Bettis expressed support for Kamala Harris. He has publicly been on board for some time because, he said, of the campaign’s focus on helping the middle class..
In August, he joined the Democratic ticket’s bus tour as it stopped at Sheetz, Primanti Bros. and Aliquippa High School’s football field.
On Sunday, the Hall of Fame running back and Super Bowl XL champ said, “I know this city and I love this city — we work hard to make things happen. No hot air. No bull. This is what defines the Steel City — and it’s the opposite of what Donald Trump stands for. Donald Trump has made promise after promise to the city of Pittsburgh, and time after time, he’s failed to deliver.”
In a joint statement, the family of Franco Harris said the late football legend believed in hard work and integrity.
F. “Dok” Harris, Franco’s son, released a statement saying, “(Kamala Harris) champions ideals my father stood for — improving education, building good jobs, supporting labor unions and making sure everyone gets a fair shake.”
Former Steelers safety Will Allen and legend Mel Blount also have endorsed Harris in recent weeks.
