Fourth of July plans at Point State Park include Zambelli fireworks, music

City officials on Thursday unveiled Pittsburgh’s plans for this year’s Independence Day celebration in Point State Park.
The July 4 festivities, which will run from 4 p.m. till 10 p.m., include musical entertainment, family activities, line dancing and a performance of Squonk’s “Hand to Hand,” which the city touted as a combination of “visual design, playful staging and high-energy original music.”
Food concessions will provide snacks, meals and desserts throughout the park.
The celebration’s main attraction — the city’s official Independence Day Fireworks presented by Zambelli — will light up Pittsburgh’s skyline beginning at 9:35 p.m. WPXI will broadcast the display.
“We are excited to celebrate with fireworks and festivities this Fourth of July,” Mayor Ed Gainey said.

Anyone participating in the festivities at Point State Park will be subject to a security screening, including a bag check, upon entry. A list of prohibited items is available online.
The schedule of events for Independence Day begins with a flag raising event at the Fort Pitt Blockhouse at 1 p.m. The Fort Pitt Museum is sponsoring family-friendly activities from 1 p.m. till 4 p.m.
The city will launch their own family activities — including games, face painting, line dancing, a photo booth and a demonstration by the U.S. Army Pittsburgh Recruiting Company — from 4 p.m. till 8:30 p.m.
The Squonk performances are slated for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., with East Winds Symphonic Band performing at 6 p.m. and River City Brass at 8 p.m.
The celebration wraps up with fireworks at 9:35.
