A firefighter was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries suffered Monday morning while extinguishing a fire in Sharpsburg.

A second firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene of the fire in a frame duplex in the 1800 block of Main Street.

The condition of the firefighter taken to the hospital was not released by authorities.

The blaze was reported shortly before 2 a.m. and was quickly raised to two alarms to summon more personnel to the scene, according to emergency dispatchers.

Main Street was partially halted to traffic but has since been reopened.

The initial report was that the fire started in building’s basement, authorities said. The cause is being investigated by the Allegheny County Fire Marshall’s Office.

As of Monday morning, no information was available about occupants who might have been displaced.
