Fox Chapel is looking to fill a vacancy on the parks commission and also is seeking a deputy emergency management coordinator.

Fox Chapel is seeking to fill two positions — a deputy emergency management coordinator and also a vacancy on the borough’s parks commission.

The deputy emergency management coordinator is a volunteer position.

The position involves working closely with Fox Chapel Chief of Police Michael J. Stevens, who is currently the borough’s emergency management coordinator, in reviewing, updating and maintaining its emergency operation’s plan.

Stevens said every community has a EMC to handle preparing a local plan, an emergency operation plan, in case of a natural disaster.

“Applicants don’t have to be a police officer,” Stevens said.

“The EMC is critically important to the community. They provide input, do research and keep the plan updated,” Stevens said.

Interested applicants must be a resident of Fox Chapel.

Stevens noted an ideal candidate should be a problem solver, have good communication and organizational skills.

“I would like to bring someone one that we can work as a team and problem solve and make sure it covers all the areas,” Stevens said.

Stevens said flooding is the biggest concern in Fox Chapel, followed by severe weather like mega snow storms and tornadoes.

Traditionally, candidates have a background in fire, EMS, or police work, but it’s not required.

Stevens said council will vote to approve the new volunteer.

Interested borough residents should send a resume and cover letter to FoxChapel@fox-chapel.pa.us.

The deadline is Aug. 1.

The borough is also interested filling a vacancy on the Fox Chapel Parks Commission due to the recent resignation of a member. Commission members must share a love for green spaces and community.

The Commission meets four times annually with occasional special meetings.

Interested applicants are asked to email a cover letter of interest to FoxChapel@fox-chapel.pa.us by Aug. 1.
