The Pittsburgh Firefighters Marching Band made its way through the annual Aspinwall Memorial Day Parade.

The Aspinwall Memorial Day parade drew thousands of onlookers to the borough’s holiday celebration on May 27.

People from across the region lined the streets beginning around noon, following a solemn ceremony at the American Legion Post 77 along Commercial Avenue.

This year’s parade honored the 100th anniversary of the American Legion, parade coordinator Barb Leonard said.

“This is a party, but the real reason we’re here is to honor our vets,” Leonard said.

Post 77 hosted a Changing of the Guard ceremony on May 26 to remind passersby of the ultimate sacrifice made by many.

Residents were invited to pay their respects at the monument along Commercial Avenue.

During the parade, dozens of participants performed along the route, including the Pittsburgh Patriotic Brass Band, Pittsburgh Firefighters Memorial Pipe and Drum Band, the Fox Chapel Area band and cheerleaders, Aspinwall Volunteer Fire Department, classic cars, Main Street Trolley, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and costumed characters.
