The Hillman Center for Performing Arts at Shady Side Academy will present a free, family-friendly outdoor concert with Latin American children’s musician Sonia De Los Santos on July 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. under the tent on the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.
The show is open to the community, and admission is free with no tickets required.
Sonia De Los Santos started touring in 2007, singing in English and Spanish, playing guitar and jarana, a string-like instrument from Mexico. In 2015 she released her first solo family music album, “Mi Viaje: De Nuevo León to the New York Island”, a collection of songs that reflect her experiences growing up in Mexico, moving to another country, learning about other cultures, and in the process, feeling closer to her own heritage.
She was nominated in 2019 for a Latin Grammy for her second album, “¡Alegría!” Her songs were hailed by Billboard as the “Best Latin Children’s Music.”
She recently released her third album, “Esperanza”, a bilingual collection of songs that explores hope; looking back at our journeys and finding light within ourselves.
The Hillman Center for Performing Arts, established in 2004, presents programs that represent Pittsburgh’s cultural traditions while celebrating global artistic innovation. The Hillman Center strives to foster an accessible environment for all patrons to explore and enjoy fine art. Special emphasis is placed on family-friendly programming.
