This dragon doesn’t look menacing enough to keep trick-or-treaters away from 15th Street in Sharpsburg.

Spooky season brings a call for sweets;

Who doesn’t love the sound of trick or treat?

Ghouls, ghosts and goblins galore

will soon be knocking on your front door.

Gummies, chocolates, Necco wafers;

sweet and sour, Now and Laters.

Mystery suckers may surprise, but

everyone knows the best candy bars are king-size.

Herald families who want to know,

on Halloween, here are the times when to go:

• Aspinwall: 6 to 7:30 p.m.

• Blawnox: 6 to 8 p.m.

• Fox Chapel: 6 to 8 p.m.

• Indiana Township: 6 to 8 p.m.

• O’Hara: 6 to 8 p.m.

• Sharpsburg: 6 to 8 p.m.

Southern Allegheny Valley Emergency Services will host a costume contest and mini parade at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 outside the Aspinwall Borough Building, 217 Commercial Ave.

Residents who are passing out treats should turn on their porch lights.

Parents are advised to dress their children in light-colored or reflective clothing so they are visible in the dark. Young children should be accompanied by an adult or older child.

Police will be patrolling neighborhoods to ensure speed limits are being obeyed, and all motorists should slow down and be on alert.
