A community blood drive will happen Thursday in O’Hara.

Walk-ins are welcome at the event, from noon to 6 p.m., at Lauri Ann West Community Center, 1220 Powers Run Road.

According to Vitalant, patients every day in the U.S. need about 36,000 units of red blood cells, 7,000 units of platelets and 10,000 units of plasma.

While about 6.8 million donors give blood each year, donation are down about 26% in the past 10 years.

Anyone who donates Thursday will receive a voucher for two Outfield Grandstand tickets to any regular season Pittsburgh Pirates home game.
