Motorists who regularly use the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel have been given somewhat of a reprieve.

Work scheduled for tonight has been canceled and the bridge will remain open.

Instead work will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

PennDOT says road crews will be working to remove pavement markings and installing new durable pavement markings on the outbound (westbound) lower deck of the I-376 Fort Pitt Bridge.

It means the bridge and tunnel will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. Saturday night to 10 a.m. Sunday morning and 9 p.m. Sunday night to 5 a.m. Monday morning. Also, the ramp from the Fort Pitt Bridge to Route 837 (West Carson Street) will be closed.

PennDOT says more information will be provided.

Last weekend, the inbound Fort Pitt Bridge and tunnel, previously expected to be closed overnight Saturday, was open to traffic Saturday night.

PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said the work requiring the closure had been completed ahead of schedule.
