Gateway Clipper shuttle out of service for weekend Pirates games

Fans have one less way to get to Pittsburgh Pirates games this weekend.

The Gateway Clipper Fleet announced its shuttle boat ride from Station Square to PNC Park is out of service for games Saturday and Sunday against the Chicago Cubs.

The shuttle service also was unavailable on Friday, after the cruise agency posted the news on social media. It cited a mechanical issue.

Terry Wirginis, president of the Gateway Clipper Fleet, told TribLive news partner WTAE that its primary shuttle vessel, The Countess, “blew an engine.” He said a replacement engine was found in Florida but likely would not be shipped until Monday.

The station reported that two of the fleet’s other boats also are out of service while remaining vessels had been rented for private events.

“May is a pretty busy time for us, so everything else is already committed to and already contracted,” Wirginis told the station.

According to its website, the fleet charges $8 for a one-way shuttle trip and $15 for a round trip.
