Appointments for the covid vaccine clinic at Heinz Field next week have been filled, only hours after becoming available.

Giant Eagle announced it would extend its covid-19 vaccination clinic at Heinz Field “after receiving an overwhelmingly positive response” this week. The chain made more appointments available to eligible individuals for Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The multi-day clinic at Heinz Field this week, Tuesday through Friday, consisted of more than 4,000 appointments that also filled within hours of becoming available.

Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts had said that the clinic could be extended if the pharmacy received more vaccine.

Giant Eagle on Thursday afternoon said vaccine supply for appointments on Monday and Tuesday of next week has been confirmed. Appointments for those two days were available through the pharmacy’s online scheduling tool starting Friday afternoon. Roberts said the number of appointments available will be determined based on supply, but did not give an exact number.

Giant Eagle Pharmacy also expects to receive a shipment of vaccine in the coming days that could allow even more appointments for Wednesday, March 10, officials said. Those appointments would be made available over the weekend.

The clinic is only open to people who fall into Pennsylvania’s Phase 1A, which includes health care workers, people 65 and older and people aged 16-64 with certain chronic health conditions.

Those who schedule an appointment are asked to arrive 15 minutes early at the PNC Champions Club, with valid identification and any medical insurance information.

Masks are required.
