Get the baskets and bonnets ready for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hampton Community Park.
The event is for children 10 years and younger and free to Hampton residents. It has been a popular draw for the community, said Bill Ryder, who operates community services programs for Hampton Township.
“The Easter Egg Hunt is continuing to grow. Participation has increased each of the last four years. The township is anticipating another well-attended event this year,” Ryder said.
The event will feature crafts, cookies and other refreshments. And Ryder said caregivers may bring a camera for Easter Bunny photos.
The township prepares approximately 2,500 eggs, Ryder said. Most of them feature candy pieces but there are also some golden eggs with special prizes, he said.
They are planning for an outdoor egg hunt, but if the weather is not cooperative they will hold it inside the community center, he said.
Many helping hands are used to get the hunt ready. Township council member Carolynn Johnson said her 14-year-old daughter, Brenna, previously volunteered with her Girl Scout Troop to help with the hunt and to fill Easter Eggs.
She said they are doing it this year as well and plan to help out at the egg hunt.
“Brenna tells me that she enjoys volunteering for the Egg Hunt because the little kids are so excited to be there and that it makes it a lot of fun,” Johnson said.
Ryder said “egg filling day” was also assisted by local Boy Scouts and high school students volunteering for community service.
On Saturday’s event, there is expected to be six high school student volunteers helping out, and other resident volunteers, he said.
