‘200 Years of Artists’

The Aug. 31 members’ meeting of South Arts Pittsburgh features “200 Years of Artists,” questions and answers with longtime members Jean Benson, age 103, and John Delmonte, 97.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs auditorium of the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, 2600 South Park Road, Bethel Park.

Jean is a talented tole artist who continues to teach her craft at the Schoolhouse. John, a former art teacher, has a studio in the building and continues to paint and keep a sketchbook.

Rotary Club to host Chicken BBQ Fundraiser

The Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Club (Breakfast) will hold its 33rd annual Chicken BBQ Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Bethel Park High School, 309 Church Road.

Tickets are $15 for a dinner including half a chicken, baked beans, chips, roll, dessert and a chance to win prizes. Carry-out only. Proceeds benefit local charities.

Church of Nazarene kids’ programs

Play It Up Club at South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park, returns for the fall.

Children in pre-kindergarten through first grade will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 7 to Dec. 7. Featured are songs, games and crafts.

Registration fee is $20. Join at any time. Register online at www:shcn.org/puc.

At the same time each Wednesday, the church offers Acting Up Club for second- through sixth-graders. Children learn music, movement and acting skills as they prepare for a musical, “Christmas in Reverse.”

Art group hosts portrait artist

The Bethel Park Art League is starting its 2022-23 season with a meeting at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave. All interested artists are welcome.

Guest speaker is Robert Daily, a portrait artist who opened his studio gallery in the South Hills in 1979. He is active in the local arts community, having exhibited, been recognized by and served on the board of both the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and the South Hills Art League. He also teaches an ongoing oil painting class.

Garage Sale In the Park set

Together with the municipality of Bethel Park, the business association in the industrial park will hold a Garage Sale In the Park on Sept. 10. Setup begins at 8 a.m., and the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Park businesses and their employees are welcome to participate at their own property location without charge.

Spaces will be sold to the general public at $10 per 10-by-10-foot space. To park a car next to a space will require buying two spaces.

DivorceCare program offered

A DivorceCare program will be offered at South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park.

The 13-week session will be held in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m. each Thursday from Sept. 8 to Dec. 15. A special event for “Surviving the Holidays” is offered on Nov. 10. For more information and to sign up, contact the facilitators at dc@shcn.org.
