North Hills Genealogists

Traveling glass recycling bin
Pennsylvania Resources Council’s traveling glass recycling bin will be at North Park from Oct. 22-27, in the swimming pool parking lot. Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site. For more information, visit prc.org/glass.
Rotary scholarship
The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. In recent years, Rotary has awarded at least eight scholarships at $5,000 each. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver Counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, G.E.D students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.
Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade point average and also must complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.

Pink Ribbon campaign at Panera
Panera locations in Allison Park, Butler Township, Cranberry Township, Pittsburgh (multiple), Ross Township, Tarentum, Wexford and more will participate in the company’s Pink Ribbon Bagel fundraising campaign during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of proceeds from each Pink Ribbon Bagel will go to the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation and Cancer Bridges. The campaign raised more than $47,000 in 2021. North Pittsburgh college fair
More than 120 colleges and universities will participate in the North Pittsburgh College Fair on Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. The fair will take place in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center at La Roche’s campus in McCandless. Admission and parking are free. Visit laroche.edu/npcf to view a full list of participating schools and learn how to register. One of the largest college fairs in Western Pennsylvania, the North Pittsburgh College Fair will host universities, colleges and technical schools from across the country.
High school students and their parents will have the chance to meet with representatives from each school to learn more about their campuses and academic programs.

Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is back from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 22. The event will be located in the Pine Community Park on the Pearce Mill Road entrance side. There will be a bounce house, pumpkin decorating, spooky games, potato sack races and more. B’s Sip of Summer truck will sell warm fall drinks like hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Halloween Popup Program
Sign up for the Little Medical School Halloween Popup Program at Pine Community Center. Kids ages 5-11 will get to do hands-on activities and learn about the parts of a bone, how to build blood “slime,” how to examine teeth and more. The popup will be on Friday, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 21.
