Depreciation Lands Museum

Beggars Day may have originated in Des Moines, Iowa, during the Great Depression as a way to allow younger children to participate in the trick or treat tradition of Halloween but remain safe from the antics of older children on Devil’s Night. It traditionally was the day before Halloween.

Children visiting the Depreciation Lands Museum in costume on Oct. 30 will receive treats varying from individually wrapped candies to trinkets.

Beggars Day also is the last day the museum is open for the 2022 season.
