Assistant principal joins high school
North Allegheny School Board on Jan. 24 approved the hiring of Garrett Miller as an assistant principal at the senior high school.
Miller joins North Allegheny from Slippery Rock Area High School, where he was as an assistant principal since August 2021. During his tenure, he focused on student career readiness and graduation pathways, teacher observation and evaluation, and communication with families.
Before serving as an assistant principal, Miller taught social studies at Slippery Rock Area High School from 2016-2021. For a decade, he served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, reaching the level of captain and serving as heavy weapons platoon leader, mortar platoon leader, company executive officer and battalion logistics officer.
Miller earned his bachelor of secondary education degree from Slippery Rock University, and his master of education and principal certification from PennWest California.
Greybrooke Garden Club meets
Greybrooke Garden Club was founded 55 years ago in the Greybrooke Community neighborhood of Allison Park. The club has expanded its membership to include members from various communities in Pittsburgh’s North Hills.
Regular meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month in the fellowship hall of Parkwood United Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mt. Royal Blvd., Hampton, and guests always are welcome.
The business meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. A brief period to enjoy refreshments and fellowship precedes the program, which begins at 11.

Reading Rumble kickoff at library
Northern Tier and Northland libraries are teaming up for a trivia event: Reading Rumble. The kickoff is at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at Northland Public Library, 300 Cumberland Road, McCandless.
A book list will be announced, and attendees can sign up for the event or seek help in finding a team. Registration is required at northlandpl.librarycalendar.com/event/reading-rumble-kick-1442.
Students selected for choir
Five North Allegheny students participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Choir, hosted by Canon-McMillan: seniors Amrita Balajee, Amanda Campos, Jeffrey Kern and Evan Wilson, and sophomore Casey Richey.
Trib Total Media scholarship
Trib Total Media’s Scholarship for Diversity in Media, created in 2020, is open to minorities as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Program.
Eligible applicants must be current high school seniors planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university with a major in journalism, English writing or communications. Scholarship recipients each will receive up to $30,000 in scholarship funds awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500.
The recipient also will receive a summer internship at Trib Total Media and, upon graduation, an offer for full-time employment. The students will be required to remain in the approved course of study through graduation and complete summer internships with Trib Total Media each year of the program.
