EcoVillage information session

Rachel Carson EcoVillage at Providence Heights will host a free in-person information session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 22 at the Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd., McCandless.

Attendees will hear from community members and watch a slide presentation with a question-and-answer session about the multi-generational sustainable community. Those interested will have an opportunity to walk to the future site of the EcoVillage. There will be light refreshments and an art activity for children.

Franklin Park festival

Franklin Park’s Festival in the Park is scheduled for June 29 on the lower fields at Blueberry Hill Park, off Blaine’s Way.

The festival kicks off at 4 p.m. and features inflatable attractions, food trucks, activities, entertainment, a petting zoo, ax throwing, and live music. The night caps off with a fireworks display around 9:30.

Outdoor concert series

McCandless Crossing is hosting its annual outdoor summer concert series and introduces a new jazz offering on the second Sunday afternoon of each month throughout the summer.

The weekly series runs through Sept. 30 and features local and regional performers in a variety of musical genres. Concerts take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday under the large white canopy tent on the Town Green, between Old Navy and Ethan Allen.

North Hills Community Outreach will hold a food donation drive at concerts on July 11, Aug. 15 and Sept. 12. Northland Public Library volunteers will host children’s activities at concerts on June 20, July 18, Aug. 29 and Sept. 16.

New for 2024, McCandless Crossing will host a monthly musical series, Jazz on the Green. Some of the region’s best jazz performers will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. each second Sunday through September.

Concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. In case of extreme weather conditions, concerts may be canceled or rescheduled.

Marshall waste collection

A household hazardous-waste collection event for Marshall residents only is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29 at 465 Knob Road.

Paint/workshop products, automotive products, cleaning products, lawn and garden products, pesticides, every type of battery, every type of light bulb, flammables and pool chemicals are among the items that will be accepted.

‘Music Under the Stars’

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra presents a free “Music Under the Stars” concert at 7:30 p.m. June 27 at the Cranberry Park Amphitheater, 111 Ernie Drive, Cranberry Township.

The symphony welcomes guest conductor Jonathan Taylor from Manchester, England, where he studied composition and conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. Upon graduation, he became the director of music for the Greater Manchester Police Band, and he later was musical director of the Cayman National Orchestra in Grand Cayman, British West Indies.
