Garden club holds sale, hike
Longvue Acres Garden Club’s perennial plant sale is scheduled for May 18.
The cash-only sale is a favorite with North Hills residents and held each year the Saturday after Mother’s Day from 9:00 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, in the lower parking lot of Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.
The sale will feature more than 600 perennial plants. Club members, some of whom are Penn State Master Gardeners, will be available to answer gardening questions and to help with plant selection.
Join Longvue Acres members at 6:30 p.m. May 28 to explore the Wahdo: Gwas Wetlands of North Park with Latodami Nature Center assistant naturalist Leah Fulton. Discover the plants that live in the ecosystem and the wildlife that depends on it, and stroll the Dragonfly Interpretive Trail boardwalk and take a peek at the resident beavers’ dam and lodge.
Hikers should meet at the lawn area in front of the North Park Skating Rink. Park at the main rink lot on Kummer Road or in the overflow lot, near Olympia Shelter, on Pearce Mill Road.
The tour is free and open to the public. For more information, email longvueacresgardenclub1950@gmail.com.
