Join the American Legion Post No. 548 at Richland Community Park for a Memorial Day Service to honor the men and women who have fought to defend the United States. Please note that the park will be closed to all other activities during this event.

Participants will have the option to sit around the area, but please maintain 6 feet of social distancing or listen from your vehicle by tuning into channel FM-88.1.

A fundraiser to benefit the American Legion Post No. 548 will be held at the Gibsonia Walmart and Gibsonia Shop ‘n Save on May 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mobile shredding event

There will be a mobile shredding event June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon (or until the truck is full) at the Richland Municipal Building Parking Lot, 4019 Dickey Road.

Women’s Business Network meetings

Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business through networking, education, and leadership opportunities. Trunk Community Sale

Spring is coming, and it’s time for the annual Parks and Recreation Junk in your Trunk Community Sale. Clear out those closets and garages of all that great stuff. The event will be May 15 at the Richland Township Municipal Building from 8 a.m. to noon. Masks will be required.

Spring plant sale event

The perennial plant sale will be May 15 from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, in the upper parking lot of Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Hwy.

The sale will feature more than 500 perennial plants grown in members’ gardens and donated for the sale.

Plant sale proceeds will help fund monthly educational programs for the public and support the maintenance of the UPMC Passavant chapel garden. The proceeds also help fund the local gardens in McCandless and Ross Township, including Northland Public Library’s new learning garden, Ross Township’s Community Garden and Evergreen Park.

Pine recycle rama

Pine Township will host a recycling event May 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the municipal buiding parking lot, 230 Pearce Mill Road.

Garden Club volunteers

The Richland Township Garden Club is looking for a group of volunteers who are interested in starting a Richland Township Garden Club to manage four areas at Richland Community Park. These areas will include the barn planting beds, pavilion planting beds and two new areas located by the new concession stand.

Camp registration open

Registration is open for Camp Cranberry, which runs June 7 to Aug. 20 for children ages 5-15 from any community.

The camp focuses on developing physical, social and decision-making skills; promoting self-confidence and having fun. There will be weekly themes for younger campers, such as outer space, dinosaurs, animals, science and storybook classics. Older campers will learn about their natural surroundings, how to express themselves creatively and inventing games and activities.

Full-day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There also are half-day camps for younger children. Lunch and extended care also will be available.

Cranberry also is offering swimming lessons for all age groups. There are group lessons, Saturday classes, sessions for preschool kids and parent and child aquatics. Private lessons also are available.

Pine trash collection

The Township of Pine suspended sales of the Vogel trash tags in March 2020 because of the covid-19 pandemic and has not resumed sales.

Residents who need discard extra trash or bulky items can arrange to have items collected online or by calling Vogel Disposal Services at 724-625-1511.
